"Right, Buzz. Young people, they don't appreciate nothing. Five thousand years of Western civilization, people revering good writing and not caring about gossip, and it all suddenly stops with the generation right after yours. " -- King Kaufman of Salon.com, in response to Buzz Bissinger's statement that young people don't appreciate good writing
For those of you who missed the game last night, you missed 6 strong innings from Z and a pretty good dugout argument between Lou and Z about when, exactly, Z would be . . . taking a break. . . from pitching for that game. Carlos won the argument and strode out to the plate in the top of the 7th with a bat in his hand and a smug look on his face. Guy who can break bats over his knee 1, Old Chubby Coaches 0. And I kind of have to agree with Z. I think I'd rather have him bat than any of our pinch hitters.
This is going to be short, because I'm currently on a great start of a four-day weekend. If the Cubs win this game, it's going to be a steal. Why? Because Tim Lincecum is pitching. Lincecum is a top up-and-coming pitcher on a crappy team. He's lost only once this season and leads the leagues in strikeouts. So, yeah, he's OK.
Well, it is for you lucky ducks that get Comcast. I'll be somewhere looking at the ticker (the one bar near me that gets MLB Extra Innings is pretty dead during the week). But kudos to all that have been staying up, pretty good to see the comments hit the 200+ mark in the last couple nights, hasn't been that way in a while. Keep it up, night owls!!
I don’t know about everyone one else, but after witnessing this weekends dismal display of pitching and less than stellar offense it was nice to see the team rebound on both fronts last night.
(This in interesting topic so I popped it up. - promoted by cubbiejulie)
I began thinking about this after reading some comments on ACB, and for the first time in a while, I decided to change the way I've voted for the All-Star Game.
With the Cubs having a legitimate shot at the World Series this year, yes, as Overlord Bud says, this time it DOES count. As we've seen this year, if the Cubs do somehow manage to get to Baseball's Big Dance, having home field would help tremendously.
So, instead of voting for a lot of Cubs, I decided to vote and put the best team out there, even if it did mean putting Pujols in and leaving Fukudome out (sorry, bud).
And then I voted for the worst possible A.L. team.
Again, none of this will probably matter, since I'm just one of 2.5 billion that probably voted. But one voice, one vote, right??
Anyway, something to think about before the late night game. If you haven't voted yet, here's the link:

Monday was also the first time DeRosa had hit a home run in 17 games. He had just three RBIs in his last 10 starts, but he smacked a two-run shot off Giants pitcher Barry Zito (3-12) in the fifth. Then he added a grand slam in the eighth. He tied a career high with six RBIs.
Both balls were hit to the same spot in left-center field. The first scored Geovany Soto, who reached on a double and also had a single and a walk. The slam, the third of DeRosa's career and the second of the Cubs' season, plated Ryan Theriot, Derrek Lee and Soto, who all reached on walks.
"It was just nice to get back on the winning side," DeRosa said. Speaking of Zito, DeRosa said, "You walk runners and you put guys in scoring position, eventually somebody's going to get a hit."
". . . so I went for it, and she totally slapped me across the face!"
So let me get this straight: Soriano is out, Z is out, Edmonds has an old person's foot, Theriot's hand hurts, Johnson is on the DL, and Ramirez has to go to the Dominican Republic for three days to deal with family issues.
